FIC 2023 | Facing future food, bio-based L-malic acid opens up a new way of health and deliciousness

This year, AHB made a heavyweight appearance once again at the international authoritative exhibition for food additives and ingredients, FIC 2023. AHB’s Functional Food and Nutrition Division focused on the theme of “Making Deliciousness Healthier” and made great efforts to create four major exhibition areas at the FIC2023 booth: “Food and Beverage,” “Pet Nutrition,” “Sports Nutrition,” and “Flavor Modification,” providing global markets with delicious and nutritious, sustainable dietary solutions.

As people’s demand for food shifts from basic “supply security” to “nutritional health,” global issues such as resource shortages, environmental pollution, and climate change are increasingly prominent. Utilizing synthetic biology technology, AHB has created cell factories that are applicable to the food industry, converting renewable raw materials into important nutrients required by organisms, and playing an important role in the upstream “raw material end” of the food industry.

Taking L-malic acid as an example, AHB uses common renewable resource glucose as the raw material and fermentation technology to make use of the stereoisomeric specificity of microbial enzymes, producing only L-malic acid, which greatly reduces the industrial production cost of L-malic acid. The green biobased fermentation process also fully complies with the trend of low-carbon emission reduction, promoting sustainable development and creating a new “sour” eating experience for consumers.

In addition, in the field of sports nutrition, with β-alanine as the core, AHB has developed a full range of sports nutrition supplementation programs, such as improving exercise endurance, promoting exercise recovery, and increasing muscle mass, by combining L/DL-alanine, L-leucine, inositol, and other nutrients. AHB also presented flavor food products with L-alanine as the core and pet food nutrition solutions with DL-alanine as the core, attracting a large number of exhibitors to consult and exchange.

Mr. Xing Qing, Director of AHB’s Functional Food and Nutrition Product Division, said, “AHB is solving the dual demand of balancing healthy eating and taste pursuit for the public. In the future, we will work with more partners and rely on a global commercial team and a synthetic biology technology platform with sustainable innovation capabilities to constantly strive to improve the quality of human life.”
